Access in Context

The Disability Discrimination Act has been in place since 1995. It has made a major impact on service providers but provides protection for disabled people in terms of access to services, employment, education and transport.

Under the Act there is a duty at large to reasonably predict and cater for the needs of disabled people.

Government figures indicate that there are 11 million disabled adults in the UK. Prominent service providers will be particularly vulnerable to criticism from disabled people and their companions where services are found not to be inclusive.
